Recently, a fully biodegradable medical needle has been successfully developed and has entered the small-scale trial phase. Made from plant-based polymer materials, this needle can naturally break down into harmless substances within 3 to 6 months when placed in a specific microbial degradation environment after use—effectively addressing the environmental issue of heavy-metal contamination caused by discarded conventional metal needles.

From a performance standpoint, this biodegradable needle boasts hardness and toughness comparable to traditional metal needles, delivering excellent puncture efficiency. Moreover, it demonstrates exceptional stability during both storage and use, ensuring it maintains its shape without deforming or breaking—critical issues often associated with material properties. In clinical trials, healthcare professionals reported that the handling experience closely mirrors that of conventional needles, eliminating the need for additional adaptation. Currently, the product is being piloted at select community health service centers. Based on feedback from these trials, we’ll refine the manufacturing process further before scaling up production within 1 to 2 years, ultimately driving a green transformation in the medical consumables sector.
