A super-miniature micro-pore infusion needle has recently been officially put into clinical use, specifically designed to address the characteristics of newborns—such as their delicate blood vessels and sensitive skin.
A super-miniature micro-pore IV needle, designed specifically for newborns with their delicate blood vessels and sensitive skin, has recently been officially approved for clinical use. Featuring a needle tip diameter of just 0.2 millimeters—about 30% smaller than traditional newborn IV needles—the new device minimizes trauma to the baby’s skin and veins during insertion. This innovative design effectively reduces both pain during the infusion process and the risk of phlebitis.
Meanwhile, this needle features a unique anti-slip connection design that securely attaches to the infusion tubing, preventing needle dislodgement or medication leakage caused by newborns' movements. In clinical applications at a children's hospital, newborns treated with this ultra-fine micro-pore needle showed a significant reduction in crying during infusions, while the rate of repeated venipuncture dropped sharply—from an initial 25% down to below 8%. The product has already earned unanimous approval from both medical staff and parents. Currently, it has been included on priority procurement lists for neonatal medical supplies in several regions, helping to enhance the quality of newborn care and treatment.
